read this if you are seeking short term therapy
Short-term therapy, typically consisting of about 12 focused sessions, offers a practical solution for those who want to create meaningful change without committing to long-term therapy.
Clarity and Focus
One of the primary benefits of short-term therapy is the clarity and focus it brings to the therapeutic process. We will work collaboratively to identify specific goals and challenges. This structured approach allows for targeted discussions, which can lead to quicker resolutions and a clearer understanding of your unique thoughts and behaviors.
Goal-Oriented Progress
Short-term therapy emphasizes goal-setting, akin to coaching, where you will identify realistic, achievable objectives. Focus instills a sense of purpose and direction in each session. The focus on specific outcomes keeps the therapy process relevant and engaging (and a light at the end of the tunnel).
Enhanced Motivation and Engagement
Because short-term therapy is time-limited, my intention is that you will find some stride and momentum at the end of our first of 12 sessions. Having a finite number of sessions encourages us to get to it! This limited session approach often leads to more honest and open conversations, and creating the map to your goal.
Short-term therapy can also be adaptable to various mental health concerns. Whether someone is navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, or life transitions, the focused framework allows room for flexibility. We can adjust our approach as needed, ensuring that the therapy remains aligned with your evolving needs.
Building Skills for the Future
Another significant advantage of short-term therapy is the emphasis on skill-building. We can study realistic and valuable coping strategies that you can take with you well after the therapy sessions are completed. These skills help with current and future challenges and contribute to your longer-term mental well-being. We will pull from ACT, IFS, DBT, CBT, NVC, and other acronyms that break-down and capture easy to follow instructions to hone emotional resiliency.
Short-term solution focused therapy is a great place to start for folks new to therapy, that have a specific goal in mind. It’s also a great litmus test to determine if the therapist/client relationship is one where you can imagine addressing deeper healing.
Let’s collaborate on a 6, 8,10 or 12 week committed and actionable plan. Who knows what will emerge!
